AT Journal Blocks for OJS

Description

The sidebar every journal builds by hand, done properly

Most journals paste indexing logos, ISSNs and calls for papers into Custom Block HTML, and it rarely looks right on a phone. AT Journal Blocks gives you four ready-made sidebar blocks that follow your theme, work on any screen size, and are filled in from a simple settings form.

The four blocks Indexing logos: list the services that index your journal by name, with an optional logo you upload and an optional link. A logo is shown when you add one, otherwise the name appears as a neat text tile. Grid or strip layout. Nothing is bundled or loaded from other sites, so there are no trademark or hotlinking problems. Call for papers: a title, short text, the deadline with a "Closes in N days" countdown and a Submit your paper button to your submission guidelines. It can hide itself after the deadline. Journal info card: ISSN (print and online), frequency, publisher, licence and language, filled in from your journal settings and editable. Latest announcements: your newest OJS announcements as a compact list. Nothing new to maintain. Built to be safe for indexing What indexers read is unchanged: every Google Scholar citation_*, Dublin Core and Open Graph tag, OAI, feeds, sitemaps and "How to cite" are byte-for-byte identical with the plugin on and off (tested on every release). The blocks only add sidebar content, on article and issue pages too. No JavaScript on your journal's pages, no web fonts, no CDNs, no requests to other sites, no tracking. Polished rounded cards with icons, a countdown tile and calendar dates, in your theme's fonts. Light, Dark or Follow device; dark is never forced. Pick your journal's accent colour (7 presets or any hex colour) and rounded or square corners in the settings; text stays readable automatically. Every value is escaped; logo uploads use OJS's own file handling and accept only PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP images. Tested on OJS 3.5 with the Default theme and the Health Sciences theme, on desktop and phone. Requirements OJS 3.5 (PHP 8.2 or later) No licence, no account and no AT Gateway needed Licence

Free and open source under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later. Use it on as many journals as you like.

What it sends

Nothing. AT Journal Blocks makes no requests to Altechmind or any other site, loads no web fonts or CDNs, has no licence check and no tracking. It only reads your journal's own settings and announcements, and stores its settings and the logos you upload on your own server.

FAQ

Is it really free?

Yes. No licence key, no premium version of the blocks and no upsell inside OJS. Free and open source under the GNU GPL, version 2 or later. Use it on as many journals as you like.

Does it slow my journal down or call other sites?

No. It adds one small stylesheet to pages that show a block and makes no requests to other sites. No web fonts, no CDNs, no tracking.

Does it change my citation data, Google Scholar indexing or OAI?

No. Every Google Scholar citation tag, Dublin Core and Open Graph tag, OAI-PMH, feeds, sitemaps and "How to cite" stay byte-for-byte identical with the plugin on or off, and before and after an upgrade. The blocks only add sidebar content. We test this on every release.

Which blocks are included?

Indexing logos (or names), call for papers with a deadline countdown, a journal information card (ISSN, frequency, publisher, licence, language) and your latest announcements.

Can I list an indexing service without its logo?

Yes. A name is enough; it is shown as a neat text tile. Add a logo and a link if you like; the link works on the logo or the name.

Can I use the DOAJ, Scopus or Google Scholar logos?

You upload the logo files yourself, so follow each service's own rules for using their logos. Nothing is bundled or loaded from other sites.

Which image types can I upload?

PNG, JPEG, GIF and WebP, up to 1 MB each, with up to 12 entries. SVG is not accepted because SVG files can contain scripts.

Can I use my journal's own colour?

Yes. Choose one of 7 colours or enter your own hex code, and pick rounded or square corners. Button text and links are adjusted automatically so they stay readable. Light, Dark or Follow device; dark is never forced.

Will it match my theme?

The blocks use your theme's fonts and sit in your theme's own sidebar. Tested with the Default and Health Sciences themes on desktop and phone.

Which OJS versions are supported?

OJS 3.5 (PHP 8.2 or later). Earlier versions (3.4, 3.3) are not supported.
