Editorial decisions step by step, with emails you can preview, edit and attach files to, and several templates per email.

DOI management built in

DOIs managed in OJS itself, on one page that shows the deposit status of each item.

Why you should upgrade to OJS 3.5

Support is ending

OJS 3.3 is supported until at least 1 January 2027. OJS 3.4 is not a long-term support release. OJS 2 and 3.0 to 3.2 get no fixes at all.

Hosting moves on

PKP lists PHP 7.3 to 8.2 for OJS 3.3, and PHP 8.2’s security support ends on 31 December 2026. OJS 3.5 runs on PHP 8.2 and later.

Known security flaws

Published flaws, such as a journal editor creating a super-admin role (CVE-2024-56525), are fixed only in current 3.3, 3.4 and 3.5 builds.

Why choose a professional for your OJS upgrade

An OJS upgrade changes the database, the files and the code at the same time. When it goes wrong, it’s usually one of these:

An upgrade that stops halfway

It can leave the journal offline, with a database that neither the old nor the new version will open. Without a full, tested backup, there is no way back.

Themes and plugins that break

Themes and plugins made for older versions can break pages or stop the site loading. Each one needs a version made for OJS 3.5.

Quiet damage

Emails that stop sending, DOI deposits that fail, or indexing settings that change. These often go unnoticed for weeks.

Our upgrade service is built around these risks: see your price.

Every upgrade includes

Full backup first
Tested on a private copy
Live at a time you choose
Plugins and theme checked
Emails and DOIs tested
14 days of free fixes

Database repairs, custom code and new designs are quoted separately, always before work starts. After the upgrade, keep the journal patched with the OJS Support Bundle, and get your editors started with OJS training.

Questions

How much does an OJS upgrade cost?

Current prices (October 2026) for one journal: from ₹3,000 (OJS 3.4) to ₹8,000 (OJS 2.x) plus GST in India, or US$80 to US$215 for clients outside India. The calculator above always shows the current price, including more journals and add-ons. In India you can pay online (UPI, cards, net banking); outside India we send a PayPal invoice, which accepts cards.

How long does it take?

3 to 10 working days depending on your version. The journal is usually offline for under 2 hours, at a time you choose.

Can you upgrade OJS 2.x to OJS 3.5?

Yes. Moving from OJS 2 is a migration: articles, issues, files, users and DOIs move across, and it includes a new OJS 3 theme with your logo and colours.

Will our DOIs and indexing be affected?

They shouldn’t be. Article addresses, DOIs and metadata stay the same, and we check them after the upgrade.

What if something goes wrong?

We restore your journal from the backup. If our free check shows the job can’t be done at your price, you choose a new quote or a full refund. Refund policy

What’s new in OJS 3.5?

Redesigned dashboard and workflow pages, invitations for users and roles, ORCID built in, affiliations linked to ROR, reviewer suggestions at submission and an Editorial Masthead page. Journals on 3.3 or older also get OJS 3.4’s new submission wizard, step-by-step editorial decisions and DOI management. Full list.

Is OJS 3.3 still supported?

Yes, as a long-term support release, until at least 1 January 2027. PHP 8.2, the newest PHP that PKP lists for OJS 3.3, loses security support on 31 December 2026, so plan the move to OJS 3.5 before then.

Will our theme and plugins work on OJS 3.5?

Plugins and themes need versions made for OJS 3.5. Many have them; older or custom ones may need updating or replacing. We check each one in the free check and tell you before you pay.

Do you look after the journal after the upgrade?

Every upgrade includes 14 days of free fixes. After that, the OJS Support Bundle keeps the journal patched and backed up, or you can get help by the hour.

Can we do the upgrade ourselves?

You can, if someone in your team knows OJS, PHP and databases well. The risk is real, though: an upgrade that fails halfway can take the journal offline, and without a full, tested backup there is no way back. Our upgrade service includes the backup, a test run on a private copy and 14 days of free fixes.
