This guide is for layout editors and production staff working with Open Monograph Press (OMP). It covers the entire production process—from receiving copyedited manuscripts to creating publication-ready files in PDF, EPUB, and other formats.
Layout editors transform copyedited manuscripts into polished, professional publications. You are the bridge between editorial work and the final product readers will access.
As a layout editor, you will:
Production is the final stage before publication:

The Production stage receives copyedited, author-approved manuscripts and produces the final publication files.

When production files are complete, upload them to OMP.
In OMP, each format (PDF, EPUB, etc.) is a “Publication Format” with its own files and metadata.
Creating a Publication Format:
For edited volumes with chapter-level access:
Files must be approved before publication:
Unapproved files won’t appear in the catalog.
After uploading, notify the editor that production is complete.
Using Production Discussions:
Sample Notification:

Dear [Editor],
I have completed production for [Book Title] and uploaded the following files:
- PDF (print-ready and screen versions)
- EPUB (validated, EPUB 3 format)
- Individual chapter PDFs (12 files)
Notes:
- Figure 3.2 was slightly low resolution; I enhanced it as much as possible but recommend author provide a higher-quality original if available.
- All files are ready for proofreading if needed.
