A lightweight WordPress plugin by Altechmind Technologies that displays events as auto-scrolling marquees. Add events with title, optional banner image, and external link, then display them as horizontal tickers or vertical card sliders using shortcodes or a sidebar widget.
Yes. Distributed under GPL-2.0+ license. Free for any WordPress site including commercial websites.
Yes. Uses isolated CSS classes (ems-* prefix) and CSS custom properties. Works with any WordPress theme without conflicts.
No. Works independently with standard shortcodes and widgets. Compatible with Elementor, WPBakery, Divi, Beaver Builder, and Gutenberg block editor.
Yes. Each shortcode renders independently. CSS loads only once regardless of how many instances appear.
Yes. Events without banner images display as text-only items in horizontal mode, or accent-bordered title cards in vertical mode.
No hard limit. Can handle hundreds of events. Recommend 5–20 active events for optimal UX. Toggle inactive to rotate content.
Yes. All strings use WordPress i18n functions with text domain "event-marquee-slider". Works with Loco Translate, WPML, Polylang, or .po/.mo files.
2. Display & Customization FAQ #
Event Marquee → Display Settings → use color pickers for Background, Text, Accent. Click "Save Settings". For vertical shortcode, use inline attributes: bg_color, text_color, accent_color.
Adjust "Scroll Speed" slider in Display Settings. Value = seconds per loop. Lower = faster. Range: 5–120s. For vertical shortcode, use speed attribute.
Horizontal supports left-to-right and right-to-left via Direction setting. Vertical always scrolls bottom-to-top.
When overlay="1", the title displays on top of the banner image with a dark gradient instead of below it. Creates a compact, dramatic layout.
Yes. Each [event_marquee_vertical] instance and each sidebar widget accepts independent settings for dimensions, colors, speed, and overlay.
3. Data & Privacy FAQ #
Custom table wp_ems_events. Settings in wp_options. No external servers contacted.
uninstall.php permanently removes: events table, all options, transients, and widget configs. Zero orphaned data.
No. No tracking, no telemetry, no external requests. Operates entirely within your WordPress installation.
4. Troubleshooting — Installation #
Plugin fails to activate #
- PHP too low: Requires 7.4+. Check via Tools → Site Health → Info → Server.
- WordPress too low: Requires 5.6+. Update via Dashboard → Updates.
- Permissions: /wp-content/plugins/ needs 755, files need 644.
- Corrupted zip: Re-download and re-upload.
Database table not created #
- Deactivate → Reactivate. This re-triggers dbDelta().
- Check MySQL user has CREATE TABLE privileges.
- Check PHP error log for specific dbDelta errors.
5. Troubleshooting — Display Issues #
Marquee not showing #
- Verify at least one active event exists (toggle on).
- Check shortcode: [event_marquee] not [event-marquee] (underscores, not hyphens).
- Check browser console (F12) for JS errors indicating theme conflicts.
- Clear page cache (WP Super Cache, LiteSpeed, W3TC, etc.).
Animation jerky or stuttering #
- Optimize images: under 100KB, WebP format, actual display size.
- Reduce active events if 20+.
- Test in incognito window to rule out browser extensions.
Images not showing #
- Open image URL directly in browser to verify accessibility.
- HTTPS mixed content: if site uses HTTPS, images must too.
- Check CSP headers for image loading restrictions.
6. Troubleshooting — Admin Panel #
AJAX save/delete not working #
- Check browser console for JavaScript errors.
- Verify jQuery is loaded (WordPress core dependency).
- Check security plugin isn't blocking admin-ajax.php requests.
- Test: yoursite.com/wp-admin/admin-ajax.php should return "0" (not 403/404).
Drag-and-drop not working #
- jQuery UI Sortable required (enqueued by plugin).
- Deactivate other admin-heavy plugins to isolate conflict.
Image picker not opening #
- Check wp.media is available in console.
- Clear browser cache + hard refresh (Ctrl+Shift+R).
